When you're sitting
in the woods far from the work-week,
sprawled out on a bench by the fire because your son has woken you up at 5am,
because a woodpecker woke him up rap-tap-tapping on a tree,
and he didn't know what the noise was but it woke him up,
and then he decided to wake you up to say that it woke him up
and now he has to go to the bathroom,
and you have to get up & out of your tent & go to his tent & say
"Ok, put your shoes on & go, you don't have to ask me to go to the
bathroom",
and he smiles and says "I know", you realize it was just him wanting
to see you,
Anyway so while you're sitting in the woods far from the work-week,
sprawled out on a bench because your son has woken you up at 5am,
It doesn't occur to you that on March 13th
the whole weight of winter is going to come crashing down
on you & those around you and you'll be pleading with the Universe,
to please just let you go back to that place in time at 5am on a bench in
the woods,
so that you can watch your son build the fire
and then you dive in the lake and feel awake & refreshed.
It's funny, because you'd think that it would have been obvious at the time
how important that moment would be to your whole existence.
